The world is reopening for travel, and there are more opportunities to work online than ever before. Here are five great reasons to take advantage and become a digital nomad now:
Explore the World and Experience it All First Hand
My own digital nomad journey was inspired by watching countless episodes of Anthony Bourdain (RIP). But I wasn’t content to just sit on the couch and absorb it all through the TV.
The more I watched, the more I wanted to see, taste, smell, and experience all those places for myself!
Lower Your Cost of Living and Improve Your Quality of Life
After I started traveling and sharing photos from my adventures online, my ex-girlfriend messaged me out of the blue to ask, “Did you suddenly inherit a bunch of money or something?”
Conventional wisdom is that travel is expensive. But the truth is, you can often save money and increase your quality of life by becoming a digital nomad — especially if you’re coming from somewhere with a high cost of living like California, NYC, London, Toronto, Switzerland, etc.
CNBC just shared this story of a 33-year old who left the U.S. Now he earns $140,000 per year while living in Bali and spending just $2,233 per month.
Since moving to Bali, Gbenro has been able to spend more on travel, dining and other hobbies as well as boost his savings.
“I’m never worried about money anymore because Bali has a much lower cost of living than the U.S.,” he says.
Add More Excitement to Your Life
Warning: After you become a digital nomad, your friends might accuse you of trying to be like the “Most Interesting Man in the World” from those beer commercials.
Most people spend life sitting on the sidelines, staring at a screen. They live vicariously through the stories, adventures, and drama of other people’s lives.
I’d rather be out there living the adventure myself. Wouldn’t you?
Back when I was stuck in a corporate cubicle, the two weeks (or less) of vacation I got each year was barely enough to put even a tiny dent in my bucketlist.
But being a digital nomad has given me the freedom to do things like: learn to surf in Bali, swim with wild dolphins off the coast of Hawaii, ski in the shadows of the Himalayas, and so much more.
Follow the Sun 🌞 (or the Snow ❄)
Whether you love skiing, surfing, or just relaxing on the beach — one of the best parts about being a digital nomad is being able to go where the weather is.
Back home, I used to struggle to fit in more than one or two ski sessions on the (not so great) local slopes each season.
Being a digital nomad has made it possible for me to ski around the world, from Slovakia to Japan, Colorado, and India. I even went skiing in the middle of July (winter in Argentina).
Hanging out with other digital nomads, I’ve met lots of surfers who follow the warm weather (and waves) all over the world. They rotate between surf spots in places like Portugal, the Canary Islands, Cape Town, Bali, and Australia’s Gold Coast. It’s always sunny somewhere!
Meet More People
Meeting new people is one of the very best parts of being a digital nomad. There’s something about travel that opens us up to connecting with others.
You get to meet people from all walks of life, all over the world — new friends, clients, business partners, and maybe even the love of your life.
Becoming a digital nomad totally changed my life! Now it’s your turn…
In my next email I’ll share how you can become a digital nomad too, including the exact steps to follow and free, detailed guides for finding remote work, booking apartments, and meeting people all over the world.
